Proposals & Valentine's Day
Sometime during 18th century England "Valentine's Day" evolved from a day to celebrate "Saint Valentine" into a holiday to for lovers to celebrate by sending flowers, candy & "valentines" to one another. Fore some reason, we've celebrated every since.
A dear friend just told me that she celebrates Valentine's Day because its the day her husband proposed. It got me thinking about memories, and some of my favorites- Proposals & Valentine's Day.
The hubs proposed to me on July 4th 2002 on a trip to Disney World with two of our dearest friends. It couldn't have been a better day & he couldn't have gotten me a better ring. I remember what I was wearing, what all we did, the Minnie Mouse strawberry fruit bars & the 2 a.m. fire alarm that had us sitting on the curb in our PJ's, as we waited for the Orlando Fire Dept. to clear our building. This past spring we went back to Disney World- 1 wedding, 11 years, 3 kids & 4 cars later. We went from living it up with friends & staying out all night to a double stroller & a "Pirates of the Caribbean" themed room with eye patches, swords, and pirate ship beds. Times have changed, but my memories haven't. We just make new ones.
I remember our first Valentine's Day after we were married. We were young, living in our 1st home (which I still have a hard time thinking of parting with), and we were doing everything we could to live our dream. The hubs had a job that was far from perfect & often included late nights. I remember being so excited, and as the night went on 6, 7, 8 o'clock, my hopes for Valentine's plans were dwindling, so I resorted to Reba reruns and Oreos. The hubs came home about 9:30 and told me we were going out, that I needed to get into the car. 30 min later we were back home...eating cheese Krystal's because all the other restaurants had closed. I've never let him live it down, but it's another one of my favorite memories. Now Valentine's Day is crafts, cupcakes, and little boys working diligently on Valentine's for their Daddy for when he gets home.
Make memories, Love a lot & Laugh. Its all that's really ever going to matter. We yell, but we love more. We're pretty boring, but we laugh- ALOT. My life is good.
